Native Hoop Dancer
The 2018 Mariposa Go West Festival is very pleased to bring to our community the talents of expert and world champion native hoop dancer,
Terry is a Yakama / Tulalip Indian, originally from Washington State. Currently he is a 7th grade math teacher in Southern California. Terry has been hoop dancing for the past 43 years. He is the 2015 Heard Museum World Hoop Dance champion in the senior division, and has danced for 3 US presidents, the Queen of Denmark, and in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He dances at assemblies, festivals, pow wows and other events throught California and around the country. Terry has been dancing with the Ramona pageant, the oldest outdoor pageant in the United States, for the past 20 years. Just google Terry's name and you will have an idea of what a privilege it is to have him dance for us.
Terry merges his twin passions for education and dancing by helping others of all ages learn the hoop dance through workshops. He has worked all levels of educational institutions, from pre-school through colleges and universities. His visit to us will undoubtedly both delight the senses and enliven minds.
